| | | Tatanka Tatanka – Story of the Bison
Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Tatanka: Story of the Bison is a 3,000 square foot visitor center including interior exhibits, a retail space, restaurant and outdoor bronze sculpture of a buffalo jump. S2 designed and helped implement the interior exhibition, which focused on the migration of bison to North America in pre-historic times, the Lakota Sioux relationship to the bison, the demise and near elimination of the species in the late 1800’s and the return of the bison up to recent time. Highlights include: a half tipi made of bison hide completely outfitted with the many daily necessities of a Sioux household; touch tables where visitors guess what part of the bison a household object was made from; and Bison and Pop Culture, representing the many depictions of bison in popular objects, media and imagery. |
